Basic Info
Name:Lara Croft
Location:United Kingdom
Bio
Character: Lara Croft
Series: Tomb
Version: Crystal Dynamics Continuity (Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Tomb Raider: Underworld), Lara is set after Underworld.
Age: 38
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Generally disinterested, but could swing either way.
Appearance: Lara Croft is a beautiful woman, and well aware of it. She is fairly tall, around 5’7”, and she has a healthy complexion. Her long brown hair is usually kept in a ponytail or braid (the better to keep it out of her eyes), and she has brown eyes. She doesn’t care for make-up most of the time, preferring to keep her face free of it except when she, rarely, feels the need.

Lara wears a brown, midriff-baring tank top and black shorts, along with a black utility belt. As an explorer/archaeologist, she also wears durable black boots that come up to her calves and black fingerless gloves. She always wears her pistols strapped to her thighs, and carries her equipment in a small backpack, which is carried on her person.

Personality: Lara is a confident woman, headstrong and incredibly self-reliant even in the most dangerous situations. Because of her numerous experiences with the abnormal (whether supernatural or otherwise) and her many brushes with death, she is extremely brave, showing little fear no matter what she is threatened with. Among those she trusts, whether they be friendly acquaintances or loved ones, she is rather cheerful, even light-hearted—and even around those she dislikes, she is still capable of showing friendliness, although it is often sarcastic, and engages in almost playful banter with such people on occasion. She is loyal to those she calls friends, and shows concern for them, even running headlong into danger to help them if needed. She is fiercely protective, and has a great amount of devotion to her deceased parents, especially her mother, whose apparent death she feels a great amount of guilt for.

Lara is a very private person, with the notable exception of her trusted friends, and determinedly keeps her past to herself around those she doesn’t know. She treats things such as the press with a cool disdain, and is noted for her refusal to grant even a cursory interview to them. Despite the fact that several unofficial biographies and articles have been written about her, she ignores them completely, even going so far as to call the biographies “utter rot.”

When someone important to Lara is threatened, she can go into a dangerous rage. This rage, while not often lasting long, causes Lara to have a sort of tunnel vision. Despite it, Lara still has a sense of mercy, and will avoid killing when possible – and when it’s not, she is often regretful, sometimes going so far as to be visibly disturbed by what has happened.

Abilities/Weaponry: Lara is an accomplished gymnast, something that has served her well in the past. She has high stamina and endurance as a result of her constant traveling around the world, and is a capable enough hand-to-hand combatant. She is an excellent swimmer, and can hold her breath underwater for up to a couple of minutes at a time, as well as being able to swim quickly.

Lady Croft is also very intelligent. She is fluent in over a dozen languages and well versed in several subjects, most notably mythology as well as her chosen field of archaeology, and her knowledge of it (as well as her willingness to journey into the unknown) has proven a valuable asset on numerous occasions.

Lara dual-wields semi-automatic pistols in battle, though she is able to use weapons aside from those, and can use anything from assault rifles to shotguns to swords if there is a need. She has a magnetic grapple which can be used to help her scale certain surfaces, although she is perfectly capable of climbing most things, from buildings to cliff faces, on her own.

Lara, upon re-entering Paixao, once again has Excalibur in her possession. This sword can open portals to Helheim when used in tandem with the various stone daises in Lara's world. In addition to this, whenever the sword is used as a weapon, it sends out powerful shockwaves, enough to kill weaker creatures. Furthermore, if shattered, it can be put back together by gathering the pieces of the sword and attaching it temporarily to the Ghalali key.

Weaknesses: Lara can be reckless and overconfident, especially when it comes to forces of nature. She often goes without climbing gear, even in the midst of slippery ice and snow, and though that has worked out for her so far, it may not in the future. She tends to playfully tease her opponents, and when angered, she can even go so far as insulting them, taunting them with her past victories over them (“I don’t know; let’s see. Try begging for your life like you did the last time we spoke.”).

Her anger, on the rare occasions when it is aroused to the point of Lara being enraged, is dangerous - both to herself and her enemies, and is not easily dissipated.

History: Lara Croft was born to Lord Richard and Lady Amelia Croft in a hospital in Surrey. She was raised lovingly by her parents and, when she was old enough, attended the Abbingdon Girls School. When Lara was nine, she went with her mother on a trip via private plane. Somehow, the plane malfunctioned and crashed in the Himalayas, leaving only her and Lady Amelia alive. While the young Lara and her mother were taking refuge in the mountains, Lara stumbled across an ancient, elaborate stone dais that had a sword in the center. Lara, curious, touched it, and Lady Amelia rushed to the scene to see the rock whirling around her child. Lara was swiftly pulled out of danger, and her mother held a brief yet terse conversation with an unknown being. At a certain revelation, Lady Amelia was horrified, and pulled the sword from the stone, disappearing in a flash of light.

The heartbroken young Lara drew a crude picture of the dais in her beloved sketchbook in crayons and made the ten-day trek across the Himalayas alone. Weak, hungry and blaming herself for her mother’s apparent death, she nonetheless survived miraculously to reach Kathmandu, where she made a call to her father in a bar and politely asked him to pick her up.

From then on, Lara rarely left her father’s side, and Lord Richard taught Lara everything he knew about archaeology, as well as taking her with him to digs all over the world. She was pulled out of school in order to stay by her father’s side, and was tutored privately while accompanying her father as she grew up. When Lara was fifteen, however, that changed. Lord Richard went missing in Cambodia, and even Lara herself could not find the body. Although human remains were found, they were unable to be identified as those of Lord Richard Croft. Because of that, Lara was thrown into a bitter feud, with her uncle, Lord Errol Croft, over the Abbingdon estates. Lara, wanting to protect her father’s legacy, fought an extensive legal battle with her remaining relatives, which she eventually won; with her victory came a deep rift between Lara and the rest of her relatives.

Nevertheless, Lara became an eleventh-generation Countess of her family at the age of eighteen, and proceeded to continue her career. She unearthed several priceless artifacts, among them the Atlantean Scion, as well as discovering the existence of mythological beings—and even extinct ones, as she came across a T. Rex in her travels (and then was forced to fight it off, as it enthusiastically attempted to make a meal out of her).

Not all of her discoveries, however, were made alone. Lara worked together with several other brilliant young archaeologists to excavate a ruin in Paraiso, located in South America. However, the dig did not go as planned, as the group was left trapped underground while a strange, horrifying creature hunted them down and devoured them. Lara was left alone in a room with a panicking Amanda Evert, who, when the creature came for them, ripped off a stone which seemed to destroy it; however, the removal caused a cave-in. Lara attempted to help Amanda escape, but Amanda was trapped when falling debris fell onto her foot. Lara, who was holding up the door, could only watch while the nearby river flooded the cave and more rubble covered Amanda. Lara returned alone to the surface, where she informed the rest of the group, (including Amaya Imanu, a friend of Lara’s who worked as an engineer) of the losses. The remaining decided to leave things as they were, in memoriam to those that had died, and went their separate ways.

Lara walked her path alone, and she discovered that she quite liked her solitude. She continued her discoveries and came to be known even more than her father had, becoming something of a controversial figure for her gung-ho tactics and disregard for the press. While some idealized her as the ultimate archaeologist, others disparaged her as a glorified grave-robber, accusing her of disrespecting the history of the sites she explored. Lara ignored both .

Eventually, she made the acquaintance of Zip, a techno-savvy, wisecracking ex-convict, and hired him. He became a trusted friend of Lara, often exchanging playful banter with Lara while she explored. She also met Alister Fletcher, a researcher well-versed in mythological history, and he became her research assistant. Alister, while prickly, also became a close friend of Lara, and while the and Zip teased each other on occasion, they became friends as well.

Lara's past came back to haunt her while she was searching in Bolivia for the same ornate stone dais she had seen in Nepal many years ago, when a man name James Rutland made mention of a very similar sword to the one that had caused the death of her mother. Weeks of searching the world later, and Lara learned that not only was her friend Amanda alive, but she was working with Rutland - and the entity that had killed her friends. Lara was forced to confront them all, both to survive and to obtain a sword fragment from Rutland. Eventually, Lara learned that the sword was Excalibur itself, and that the portals led to Avalon, where her mother was - rather than dead as Lara had always believed. Making the decision to go after her, and leaving Amanda alive, Lara contacted Alister and Zip for help in her search.

Once back in England, Lara put Excalibur away for safe-keeping—and was promptly pulled into Paixao, where she made some new friends and acquaintances. Some time after that, she found herself back in her own world, curled up in her library as though nothing had happened. Her original mission back in her mind, and with no time to lose or think of what had apparently simply been just a dream, Lara began her search for her mother anew. After weeks of searching and gathering what she needed—Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjolnir—and discovering Avalon (but only after losing her dear friend Alister and the manor she considered her home to a doppelganger of her—whom Lara ended up freeing later on—created by Natla), she finally found her mother—an undead, similar to the ones she fought in Avalon—or rather, Valhalla—and was forced to destroy her (“You’re not my mother”). Natla, of course, chose this moment to attack her and reveal her hand in the death of Lara’s father.

Enraged, Lara pursued her to Jörmungandr, where Natla revealed her plan – that she was going to use Jörmungandr to trigger earthquakes that would bring about the apocalyptic Seventh Age. Despite Natla’s machinations, however, Lara managed to stop her plan, and hurled Mjolnir at Natla, throwing her into the deadly eitr. She then returned to Amanda, who had helped her stop Natla despite their differences, and the two managed to find their way out, despite Amanda’s grudges against Lara, and made it to Nepal. Amanda attempted to fight Lara, who tiredly sheathed the sword. “Would killing me make us even?” she asked, causing Amanda to contemplate her options, then turn away.

It was in this state that Lara was pulled back into Paixao.
